Frequently Asked Questions

How can I book an award winning self catering cottage, lodge or house at Mains of Taymouth?
By contacting the booking office by phone or email or by booking online through the website. We require a 50% deposit to confirm the booking and the balance is payable six weeks before your arrival. We accept all major credit cards except American Express.

Why do I need cancellation insurance?
No one books a holiday thinking they will need to cancel it. Unfortunately sometimes things happen that may prevent you going away which is why we always recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance. Part of our booking conditions are that, once the booking deposit has been paid, you remain liable for the whole cost of the holiday. If your claim is covered by insurance, you will be able to claim back all the monies paid less the insurance premium and a small excess charge. Any cancellation made by the Client for whatever reason must be made in writing. Our staff will make every effort to re-let the cancelled holiday let but, failing this, the entire rental fee will be payable.

Can I bring a dog(s)?
Yes. With the exception of Archway Cottage and the first floor apartments at the Gallops, all our other properties accept one dog by prior arrangement. There is a charge of £5 per dog per night and we ask that you bring your own dog bedding, do not allow the dog into any bedrooms or onto any furniture and do not leave the dog unattended in the house at any time (in case they disturb other guests or cause damage to the property). Owners must keep their pets under strict control whilst on the Estate and clear all dog mess up.

Is it possible to book single sex parties/parties of young people?
It is our policy not to encourage bookings for single sex parties and hen parties/stag nights. However, parties of golfers/groups of ladies after a chill out weekend, are occasionally accepted. Please explain your requirements to us before booking and we will be happy to discuss this with you.

The properties are fully equipped – do I need to bring anything?
Not really. All the linen, towels, dishcloths and tea towels are provided, salt and pepper, and enough complimentary Highland Aromatic products for a day or two etc. We also provide an initial supply only of washing up liquid, dishwasher and washing machine tablets and toilet rolls. The Courtyard supplies most day to day needs and Aberfeldy (6 miles) has two supermarkets, a butcher, baker, newsagent, garage and range of other small shops. Please contact Reception while you are here if you have any problems finding what you need!

Is Broadband/Wireless access available?
Most of our properties have Wi-Fi with the exception of The Gallops apartments and some of the Castle Gardens houses. Check our website for further details. The Courtyard bar and restaurant has free Wi-Fi access and is a pleasant place to sit if you need to log-on.

Can I have two king rooms in The Gallops apartment?
Yes. The bed configuration in The Gallops is particularly versatile. Normally the apartments are made up as one king and one twin, but please let us know in advance if you would prefer two kings or two twins.

Can we smoke in the property?
No. We have a strictly No Smoking policy in all our holiday accommodation.

What time do I arrive and depart the property?
Arrival time is 4pm and departure time is by 10am. We can sometimes allow earlier entry or late departure but please contact us prior to your arrival about this.

Do we have a Hot Tub?
Yes - if you booked a property with a Hot Tub! Prior to your let, we change the water, clean the hot tub and re-fill it before your arrival. However, this may mean that the temperature of your hot tub will not be at its optimum until the day after you arrive.

Do we have a swimming pool?
Not yet at Mains of Taymouth - but a fantastic new pool on the Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy (6 miles), as well as a climbing wall, sports hall and multigym. The lovely sandy bay in Kenmore is ideal for safe swimming and paddling when the weather permits.

Do we have a restaurant?
Yes! The Courtyard bar and restaurant is on site and is a lovely place to eat or relax with a drink. There is also a good choice of other eating establishments within easy reach.

Is Reception open at the weekends?
Yes. We are open 10am – 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays and 9am – 5pm throughout the week.

Do guests get a discount on Kenmore Golf Course?
Yes. From 1st April to 31st October, our holiday house guests received a 10% discount on daily rates – or better still, buy a weekly ticket at special rates. From 1st November to 31st March, our guests can enjoy free winter golf, subject to weather conditions.

Do you have allergen free pillows and duvets?
Yes. Archway Cottage is an allergen free holiday house anyway, but if you would like allergen free pillows or duvets in any of our other houses, please let us know in advance.

Do any of your houses have disabled access?
Many of our houses have a ground floor bedroom and toilet for disabled access. Please call our office who can give you more information. The White House has an internal lift.

Do we have a BBQ?
Yes if you have booked a house with a BBQ. All the Mains Cottages, Bruadair and most of the Castle Gardens house have gas BBQ’s. The Gallop apartments do not have BBQ’s.

What happens if I leave an item of clothing/valuables behind?
All lost property is logged in a ‘Lost Property‘ folder which is kept in the main reception with details of the date found, description and which house it was found in. We will keep lost property for 6 weeks, it is our policy thereafter to forward any unclaimed items to Save the Children Foundation. Anything of significant value will be handed into the Police station in Aberfeldy. You are responsible for any postage costs to return any item.

Does my house have WiFi?
The whole of our Estate is WiFi enabled though some handheld devices (iphones etc.) may receive a poor reception and we recommend you only access WiFi using a laptop/notebook. So that you can access WiFi for as much or as little as you like during your stay, our charges are as follows:

1 hour - £2.00
1 day - £5.00
3 days - £10.00
7 days - £19.00
1 month - £29.00
