kenmore - perthshire area guide

Mains of Taymouth is situated in the beautiful conservation village of Kenmore, near Aberfeldy, nestled at the east end of Loch Tay in Highland Perthshire amidst the finest scenery Scotland has to offer and where the famous River Tay starts its journey to the sea.

Not just the adventure playground of Scotland, but an extravaganza of sensational scenic delights – and home to some of the outstanding visitor attractions of Scotland, including Blair Castle, Pitlochry Theatre, the House of Bruar, Killiecrankie, Dewars World of Whisky and the Queens View.

Here are just some of the highlights:

  • Aberfeldy, Loch Tay and Glen Lyon has much to offer from a reconstructed crannog, to stone circles, ancient villages, the oldest piece of living vegetation in Europe, gardens to the spectacular Glen Lyon.

  • Dunkeld and Birnam are a great place for a day out or to use as a place to base your holiday. Dunkeld with its ancient cathedral on the banks of the River Tay has much history to offer within its quaint town.

  • Killiecrankie and Blair Atholl The first shots of the Jacobite rebellions were fired in the gorge of Killiecrankie. Blair Atholl is dominated by Blair Castle the ancient home of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl and the home of the Atholl Highlanders the only legal private army in Europe today.

  • Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch Here you will the real Highland wilderness as you travel first pass the much photographed Queen's View to Tummel and on to Rannoch with its Clan Train around Loch Rannoch or its famous Tea Room on the west Highland Railway line in the middle of the bleak Rannoch Moor

  • Pitlochry is the centre of tourism in Highland Perthshire. The town itself is picturesque in the summer with its stone Victorian buildings that have a particular Perthshire style to them and the fantastic floral display put on by Pitlochry In Bloom. You will find two distilleries, including Edradour – PitlochryTheatre - and a host other attractions to choose from.
